I’m a new Wayfair supplier. I provide a wholesale price (what they call “cost”), but I can’t figure out how Wayfair decides the final retail price on the site.
Is there a fixed markup? For example, if I quote $25, will they sell it at $50, $80, $100? I know they cover shipping and returns, but I’d like to understand the logic so I can price my products competitively.
Any insights from experienced suppliers would be really helpful. Thanks!

If they set the price too high, nothing sells. If they set it too low, I might get orders but then they come back later asking to lower my cost. How do you manage that?

They use dynamic pricing – meaning the price can change by region, season, or even based on how well a similar product is selling. So there’s no fixed formula you can plug into a spreadsheet.
What I do:
Look at top competitors in my subcategory
See what their retail prices are
Work backward: if their cost is roughly similar to mine, then the retail price tells me what margin Wayfair expects
If my product is priced much higher than theirs at retail, I know my cost is too high relative to the category.
Your wholesale cost
Final mile delivery (Wayfair charges the customer but also pays for it, so it’s baked into the price)
Returns & damages – they assume a % depending on category
Their operating margin (typically 20–30% on top of total landed cost)
They don’t just slap a fixed multiplier on your cost. Instead, they estimate total landed cost (your cost + freight + returns + overhead) and then apply a category-specific margin to get retail. That’s why two products with the same wholesale price can have different retail prices.
Small/light items → retail is about 2–3× your cost
Large/heavy items (furniture) → retail is often 3–5× your cost
Wayfair adds in their own freight, returns, and operating margin. The multiple depends on your category and how much competition there is. Start with that range and compare to similar products on the site.
