I see so many people dying to quit their 9-to-5 and go all in on Amazon. They see a couple of success stories online and think it’s easy money. Spoiler: it’s not. It’s brutal, and most people aren’t cut out for it.

Let me be real blunt: most folks have no business quitting their job to sell on Amazon. You think it’s low cost, low risk? Yeah, registering a seller account and sending a small batch of inventory doesn’t cost much. But that’s just the start. How many products are you gonna test with that money? What if your first few flop? Can you afford to keep going, or will you be stuck with unsold inventory and no cash?

What’s your edge? If you’re selling generic junk, how are you gonna stand out? What happens when someone hits you with a patent claim, or starts a price war so low you can’t compete? Go for niche products? Good luck finding a reliable supplier – and waiting months to get your cash back. Chase hot trends? Get ready for ad costs that eat your profits, fake reviews from competitors, listing hijackers, and Amazon auditing your account every other week.

These days, Amazon isn’t just about knowing how to run ads or optimize a listing. It’s about resources – supply chain, cash, connections. Most people who make it didn’t start from zero. They had savings, a network, or a side hustle that was already making money before they quit.

The only people who should even think about quitting their job are:

  • Those with enough cash to fail a few times and not sweat it (no impact on rent/food).

  • Or those with nothing to lose – ready to bet it all, no safety net.

For everyone else? Keep your day job. Run Amazon as a side hustle first. Test the waters, learn the ropes, and only quit when your side income is consistently beating your salary. Trust me, there’s no rush to crash and burn.
