Hey everyone — long-time Amazon seller here, finally making the move into TikTok Shop.
I’m trying to wrap my head around the cost structure. On Amazon, we’ve got referral fees, return fees, storage fees, inbound placement fees, and then taxes and digital service fees depending on the market. I know TikTok doesn’t have a fulfillment center like Amazon, and I’ve heard the commission is around 6%. But what else is there? Any order processing fees, storage fees, or other hidden costs I should know about?
Also, shipping options. From what I’ve gathered, there seem to be three:
-
Third-party logistics with virtual warehouse fulfillment
-
TikTok’s official shipping service (not FBT)
-
FBT (Fulfilled by TikTok) — I’m on the waitlist for this one. Has anyone actually gotten in?
For the first two, are they both viable? What are the pros and cons of each?
And finally, any pitfalls to watch out for during the onboarding process? Would really appreciate any advice from those who’ve already made the jump.
Thanks in advance!

On fees you’ll actually see:
Onboarding pitfalls:
Mindset shift – this is the big one:
TikTok is not Amazon. You don’t win by ranking for keywords. You win by making content people actually watch. One video from a small creator can blow up and suddenly you’re flooded with orders. It’s chaotic, unpredictable, and feels completely different from optimizing a listing for search. The core skill isn’t PPC — it’s making good video hooks.

Two ways to set up:
I started with direct, then switched to agency for the rebate. Worth it if you plan to spend consistently.

| Third-party 3PL | Flexible inventory, good for testing; you control shipping speed | Service fee per order (~$0.50–0.80 depending on region); you’re responsible for tracking; fake tracking will get you flagged |
| TikTok’s Official Partner Warehouse | No service fee; tracking auto-uploads; negotiated last-mile rates | Need to pre-stock; inventory turn requirements; limited warehouse locations |
| FBT (Fulfilled by TikTok) | Traffic boost (algorithm favors FBT listings); first 30 days storage free; access to platform promotions | Waitlist only; storage fees after 30 days; returns can’t be restocked; requires high turnover |
Most sellers I know start with third-party to test, shift to TikTok’s partner warehouse once a product proves itself, and only push the top SKUs into FBT for the traffic weight.
