I’ve been using eBay’s automated Promoted Listings (the one that adjusts to the “recommended” rate daily). When I first started, new listings would get a relatively low rate — around 7–8%.
For the past couple of months, I’ve let it run automatically, and the system has been cranking up the rates. It went from a barely tolerable 12% to as high as 16–17% on some of my steady sellers.
Is eBay just squeezing sellers now? They keep raising rates until we’re working for nothing? Margins on eBay (especially with overseas warehouse fulfillment) are already thin. This is getting brutal.
I’m thinking of giving it another month to see if it settles. If not, I’ll switch everything to fixed rates and cap them at 12–13%. Is this surge because of some platform promotion, or is this the new normal? Feels like ad costs are getting close to Amazon levels.
